Program Summary:
RHD Montgomery County Homeless Services and Genny’s Place offers a safe place to stay and assistance for individuals experiencing homelessness, helping them transition towards independent living. The program is a partnership between Your Way Home, Montgomery County’s Office of Behavioral Health, and Resources for Human Development. The program specifically caters to single adults without housing. Clients have access to dedicated caseworkers who help them find permanent housing and apply for necessary benefits. Additionally, we provide practical support such as laundry facilities, transportation, meals, clothing, and essential life skills training.

Position Summary: 
The Direct Support Professional (DSP) plays a vital role in enhancing the quality of life for individuals with disabilities. DSPs provide direct care, promote independence, and support individuals in achieving their personal goals in a safe and supportive environment.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities: 
  • Assist individuals with activities of daily living, including personal care, meal preparation, and household tasks.
  • Promote independence, self-advocacy, and personal choice in all aspects of daily life.
  • Support individuals in developing life skills and participating in social, recreational, and community activities.
  • Build respectful, positive relationships with individuals served.
  • Accurately document services provided and track individual progress.
  • Communicate effectively with team members, families, and external providers to ensure coordinated care.
  • Respond appropriately to behavioral or medical needs, including crisis situations when necessary.

Qualifications: 
  • High School Diploma or GED required (additional education in human services or related field preferred).
  • Previous experience in direct support, caregiving, or human services preferred.
  • Compassionate, patient, and reliable with a strong desire to help others.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Additional Requirements: 
  • Valid driver’s license with a minimum of 3 years driving experience and reliable transportation.
  • Ability to pass background checks, including criminal history and driver’s record check.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain required clearances, including child abuse clearance (if applicable).
  • CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift, transfer, and support individuals as needed (up to 50 lbs).
  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, and assisting with mobility.
  • Work performed in residential and community-based settings.
